How to cancel PlayStation Plus

This one cancels from your account page in a couple of minutes, with nobody to talk to.

The catch

PlayStation Plus is really three things sold as one subscription, and cancelling ends all of them at once. The monthly games you claimed, the Game Catalog on Extra and Premium, and online multiplayer for most games all stop together. There is also a stacking rule people run into: if you bought several twelve month subscriptions at once they sit in a queue, so turning off auto renew stops the next charge but does not shorten the time you have already paid for.

After you cancel PlayStation Plus

Every game you claimed as a monthly title becomes unplayable when the subscription lapses. Those titles are licensed for as long as you subscribe rather than owned, they stay in your library greyed out, and they unlock again if you resubscribe. The same applies to everything from the Game Catalog. Games you actually bought are unaffected.

Cloud saves are the part that costs people real progress. Uploaded saves stay stored for around six months after the subscription ends and are then deleted. Copy anything you care about to local storage or a USB drive before that window closes. Local saves on the console itself are untouched.

Online multiplayer stops for most paid games, though free to play titles such as Fortnite and Warzone keep working without a subscription. Sony offers pro rata refunds on PlayStation Plus more readily than most services do, particularly on a recent renewal you did not use, so it is worth contacting support rather than assuming the money is gone.
