How to cancel TurboTax

This one cancels from your account page in a couple of minutes, with nobody to talk to.

The catch

Most people searching for a way to cancel TurboTax do not have a subscription. TurboTax is bought per tax year rather than paid for monthly, so there is usually nothing recurring to stop. The two things that genuinely do recur are TurboTax Advantage, which reorders the software for you each year, and a Full Service or Live plan for the current year. If neither of those is on the account, the charge you are looking at is a one off fee rather than a subscription, and cancelling is the wrong tool for it.

  1. Sign in to your Intuit account
  2. Open TurboTax Advantage and select Your Products
  3. Select Remove Product on the recurring order
  4. Confirm to end the Advantage subscription

After you cancel TurboTax

Removing Advantage stops next year's automatic reorder. It does not refund or withdraw the product for the year you have already been sent, and it does not affect a return you have already filed.

A return that has been filed stays filed and your prior year returns remain available in the Intuit account, since document access is not what the recurring charge was paying for.

If the charge you want to stop is a preparation or filing fee rather than Advantage, cancelling nothing will help. That is a refund or a change of product tier, handled through support before the return is filed rather than after.

TurboTax is usually pay per use rather than a recurring subscription. Canceling means turning off Advantage auto renewal or removing the product. If you bought inside an app the purchase is Apple billed through StoreKit and must be canceled in the App Store.
