How to cancel SiriusXM

This one cancels from your account page in a couple of minutes, with nobody to talk to.

The catch

A very large share of SiriusXM subscriptions did not start on siriusxm.com at all. They started in a car, as a trial that came with the vehicle and converted quietly into a paid subscription months later. Those accounts are often still filed under the dealership or the previous owner, with a radio ID rather than an email address as the real identifier, which is why the login you expect to work does not.

Cancel SiriusXM step by step

Sign in to the Online Account Center
Open the Subscriptions tab
Select the subscription you want to end
Choose Cancel Subscription and confirm
Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid another charge

After you cancel SiriusXM

Service runs to the end of the term you have paid for. The radio in the car keeps receiving channels until that date and then stops, usually without warning, so the end of a SiriusXM subscription tends to be discovered on a motorway rather than in an inbox.

Prepaid multi year plans are treated differently from monthly ones, and any refund of the unused portion is handled case by case rather than automatically. Ask about it explicitly when you cancel, because it is not offered unprompted.

Expect a retention offer, and expect it to be a real one. SiriusXM discounts aggressively at the point of cancellation, often well below the standard rate for a further year. That is worth knowing before you start rather than after, because the offer only appears once you have said you are leaving.

Direct-billed SiriusXM subscriptions are cancelled in the Online Account Center or by calling 866-635-8641. If you subscribed through the SiriusXM iOS app, billing may run through Apple/StoreKit instead, in which case cancel via Apple Settings at https://apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.

Questions people ask about cancelling SiriusXM

I cannot find my SiriusXM account. What now?

Look up the account by radio ID rather than by email. Subscriptions that started as a car trial are frequently registered against the vehicle or the dealership rather than against you, and the radio ID is the only identifier all of those records share. It is available from the radio itself.

Will I be offered a discount if I try to cancel?

Almost certainly, and it is usually substantial. If the price rather than the service is the problem, going through the cancellation flow is the reliable way to see what they will actually charge you, and you can still decline and leave.

Does the radio stop working straight away?

No. It keeps receiving until the end of the term you have paid for, then stops. There is no countdown on the dashboard, so note the end date when you cancel rather than relying on a warning.

I cancelled and the charge is still there.

Check whether the subscription is being billed by Apple, which happens when it was started inside the SiriusXM iOS app. In that case the Online Account Center cannot stop it and the cancellation has to happen in the Apple account subscriptions list.
