How to cancel Adobe Creative Cloud

This one cancels from your account page in a couple of minutes, with nobody to talk to.

The catch

Adobe is the only service in this batch that charges you to leave. The annual plan paid monthly is a twelve month contract that happens to be billed in instalments, and cancelling it after the first fourteen days carries an early termination fee of roughly half of the remaining months. Adobe presents that during the flow, but by then people assume they are cancelling a monthly subscription. There is a full refund inside fourteen days of purchase. Outside it, check which plan you actually hold before confirming anything.

Cancel Adobe Creative Cloud step by step

  1. Sign in at account.adobe.com/plans
  2. Select Manage plan for the subscription you want to cancel
  3. Select Cancel your plan
  4. Choose a reason for cancelling
  5. Review and confirm the cancellation

After you cancel Adobe Creative Cloud

Move your files first. Creative Cloud storage drops to the free two gigabyte tier when the subscription ends, and anything above that becomes inaccessible and is eventually deleted. Download your cloud documents, your Lightroom library and your synced assets before the period expires rather than after, because recovering them afterwards means resubscribing.

The applications stop opening at the end of the paid period. Files created in them stay on your disk and can be opened elsewhere, but the proprietary formats are the problem: a layered Photoshop or InDesign file needs software that reads it. Exporting anything you may need later to a flat or open format while you still have the apps is fifteen minutes that saves an argument with yourself in six months.

Fonts activated through Adobe Fonts deactivate, so documents using them will show substitutes. Your Adobe account, Behance profile and any purchased stock licences are unaffected and survive the cancellation.

Worth knowing

If the subscription was purchased through a third party such as Apple (in-app), Google, or Microsoft, Adobe cannot cancel it — it must be cancelled via that provider (e.g. Apple StoreKit manage subscriptions). Cancelling after 14 days on an annual paid-monthly plan may incur a 50% early termination fee.

Questions people ask about cancelling Adobe Creative Cloud

Will Adobe charge me a fee for cancelling?
On an annual plan paid monthly, yes, if you are past the first fourteen days. The early termination fee is roughly half the value of the remaining months of the twelve month term. Monthly plans and annual prepaid plans do not carry it.
Can I get a refund from Adobe?
Within fourteen days of the original purchase you get a full refund. After that, monthly plans simply stop at the end of the paid period with no refund, and annual plans either run to term or attract the early termination fee.
What happens to my files in Creative Cloud?
Your storage drops to the free two gigabyte tier and anything over that becomes inaccessible, then is deleted after a grace period. Download cloud documents, Lightroom photos and synced assets before the subscription ends, not after.
Can I still open my Photoshop files after cancelling?
Not in Photoshop, which stops launching at the end of the period. The files stay on your disk, but layered PSD and INDD documents need software that reads those formats. Export anything important to a flat or open format while you still have the apps.
