How to cancel Amazon Prime Video

This one cancels from your account page in a couple of minutes, with nobody to talk to.

The catch

The first question is whether you are cancelling Prime Video or Amazon Prime, because they are not the same subscription and people routinely cancel the wrong one. A standalone Prime Video membership is video only. Full Amazon Prime includes video alongside delivery, Photos, Music and the rest, and ending it takes all of them. There is also a third route: Prime Video Channels such as Max or Paramount+ bought inside Amazon are separate subscriptions again, and cancelling Prime leaves them running.

After you cancel Amazon Prime Video

Amazon is the one genuine exception to the no refunds pattern on this page. If you have not used the Prime benefits during the current period, Amazon may refund it in full, and annual memberships can be refunded on a pro rata basis. Use has a broad meaning here, covering a free delivery or a stream, so any real activity in the period usually rules it out. It is still worth checking the cancellation screen, which tells you what you are entitled to before you confirm.

Access continues to the end of the paid period unless you take a refund, in which case it ends immediately. Your watchlist and viewing history stay on the Amazon account, which is not deleted by cancelling.

Purchases are safe. Films and series you bought rather than streamed stay in your library permanently and remain watchable without a subscription. Rentals and anything watched through Prime included titles do not.

Worth knowing

Prime Video content or a Prime Video subscription purchased inside an iOS app may be Apple-billed and must be cancelled via Apple Settings / StoreKit manage subscriptions instead of the Amazon site.
