How to cancel Disney+

This one cancels from your account page in a couple of minutes, with nobody to talk to.

The catch

Disney+ sells itself through more third parties than almost any streaming service, and each one owns its own cancellation. Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku, Verizon, Hulu and a long list of carriers all resell it, and none of them let Disney cancel on their behalf. Then there is the bundle. If your Disney+ arrived as part of a package with Hulu or ESPN+, cancelling Disney+ alone may end the whole bundle or none of it depending on how the package was sold, so read what the confirmation screen says before you agree to it.

Cancel Disney+ step by step

  1. Sign in to your Disney+ account
  2. Open Account from your profile
  3. Under Subscription, select your Disney+ plan
  4. Select Cancel Subscription
  5. Confirm cancellation

After you cancel Disney+

Access continues to the end of the current billing period rather than stopping on the day you cancel, and the confirmation screen names the exact date. Disney does not refund the remainder of a month, so nothing is gained by cancelling early in a cycle.

Your profiles, watchlist and continue watching positions are held on the account rather than deleted, so a later resubscription usually picks up where you left off. Downloads in the mobile app stop playing when the period ends.

One thing worth doing in the right order: cancel the subscription before you delete the account. Deleting a Disney account does not automatically stop a subscription billed by Apple, Google or Amazon, and people who do it the other way round find the charge still arriving with no account left to log into and fix it from.

Cheaper than cancelling

If you would rather keep Disney+ than lose it, there is a cheaper way to have the same thing.

  • Basic with ads

Roughly 38 percent less than what you pay now

The full catalogue, with ad breaks.

Assumes if you are on the ad free Premium plan.

    Where to change it

Estimates, not quotes. The figures are a share of what you already pay, because a ratio survives currency and region and goes stale slower than a fixed price.

Every subscription with a cheaper plan

Worth knowing

Cancel directly from the Disney+ Account page. If you subscribed through a third party (Apple, Google, or Amazon) or as part of a bundle, you must cancel through that biller instead. Cancel the subscription before deleting the account to avoid further charges.

Questions people ask about cancelling Disney+

Does cancelling Disney+ also cancel Hulu and ESPN+?
It depends on how the bundle was sold to you. Some packages are a single subscription that ends together, others are separate subscriptions billed as one line. The cancellation screen tells you which services it is about to end. Read it rather than assuming.
Can I get a refund on an annual Disney+ plan?
Generally no. Disney does not refund the unused part of a paid period, annual plans included, so an annual subscription cancelled in month two still runs to month twelve. You keep access for the full term you paid for.
Why does my Disney+ account have no cancel option?
Because a third party is billing you. Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku and several carriers all sell Disney+ and each handles its own cancellations. The subscription section of your account names the biller, and that is where the cancellation has to happen.
Should I switch to the plan with ads instead?
If you still watch, yes. It is the same catalogue with ad breaks and it costs meaningfully less than the ad free tier. Cancel outright only if the app has gone unopened for a couple of months, which for most people it has.
